Lexicalised compositionality

چکیده
In this paper, we propose an approach to distributional semantics which can be formally related to a simple model-theoretic approach. We describe treatments of some of the traditional lexical semantic relationships within this framework, and also outline accounts of some phenomena which have been considered within Generative Lexicon theory. We further argue that distributions should be based on individual experience, rather than the type of text corpora currently used in computational linguistics and lexicography.

Indexicals and Compositionality: Inside-Out or Outside-In?
Two different approaches to the compositional semantics of indexicals are compared. The outsidein approach uses λ-abstraction and is heavily lexicalised. The inside-out approach treats indexicals by presupposition resolution. The former is relatively simple to implement and deals in a natural way with multiple occurences of indexicals. The latter is more complex, but has potential to deal with ...
متن کاملA probabilistic framework for analysing the compositionality of conceptual combinations
Conceptual combination performs a fundamental role in creating the broad range of compound phrases utilized in everyday language. This article provides a novel probabilistic framework for assessing whether the semantics of conceptual combinations are compositional, and so can be considered as a function of the semantics of the constituent concepts, or not. While the systematicity and productivi...
متن کاملTowards Domain-Independent Deep Linguistic Processing: Ensuring Portability and Re-Usability of Lexicalised Grammars
In this paper we illustrate and underline the importance of making detailed linguistic information a central part of the process of automatic acquisition of large-scale lexicons as a means for enhancing robustness and at the same time ensuring maintainability and re-usability of deep lexicalised grammars. Using the error mining techniques proposed in (van Noord, 2004) we show very convincingly ...
متن کاملCollocations of Complex Nouns: Evidence for Lexicalisation
This paper combines a corpus-based study of noun+verb collocations with an attempt to distinguish compositional, regularly formed compounds from lexicalised ones. We claim that morphologically regular, compositional compounds share most of their collocational preferences with their compound heads, whereas lexicalised compounds have their own collocational preferences, distinct or only marginall...
متن کاملEnabling Adaptation of Lexicalised Grammars to New Domains
This extended abstract focuses on the main points we will be touching upon during our talk, the aim of which is to present in a concise manner our group’s work on enhancing robustness of lexicalised grammars for real-life applications and thus also on enabling their adaptation to new domains in its entirety.
